Tips to Avoid Head Aches & Eye Strain at Work
Many office workers suffer from headaches and eye discomfort as a result of staring at a computer screen all day. Chances are it’s from repetitive strain injuries caused by awkward positioning and straining from poor ergonomic practices.
Tips to Avoid Head Aches & Eye Strain at Work
-
Check your monitor.
It should be at eye level, at least 20 inches away from your face, which might call for a monitor lift for the right height. - Take breaks. To avoid eye strain, make sure you take breaks and blink often to restore moisture. It often helps to focus on something farther away than your monitor screen to allow your eyes a chance to re-focus.
- Eliminate glare. Nobody likes to stare at the sun. In the office, your screen can be almost as bad. Tilting or angling your screen can help alleviate glare issues.
- Stay neutral. Finally, make sure to avoid bending or straining awkwardly and to keep all essential items within a comfortable arm’s reach. When you overextend your reach, it’s your neck and shoulders that pay the price, often resulting in headaches and other aches and pains.
Not working at your computer is not an option, but hopefully these tips will allow you to work around discomfort while still working.
