My Dream Ergonomic Set-Up: Part 2

Since I frequently write about ergonomic trends, principles, and products, I thought it would be fun to day dream about my ideal ergonomic set-up.

A little about my needs

Before we had kids, I was a high school Spanish teacher and would have loved a wireless presentation keyboard or even a mobile stand for my laptop as I presented new concepts and vocabulary.  However, now that I have 2 precious ones at home {and a third on the way!}, my job has changed to suit my new schedule.  I work from home on my computer.  I live in a small flat in Scotland while my husband completes his PhD.  Thus, space is certainly an issue for us.  We barely have enough space to function, much less an actual office area for me.  Thus, my desk is in the living room, but I am grateful to have one.  If I had a generous gift card, though, here is what I would choose after a year+ of researching ergonomic products.

My Actual Work Station {Computing}

I mentioned last time that I would form my work station around the Sit or Stand WorkStation and the Body Bilt Ergonomic Chair.  It’s a good hub, if I say so myself.  Anyway, once those 2 critical pieces are in place, I can start to think about what goes on top or around them.

  • Wireless Ergo Wave Ergonomic Keyboard- I do work from a laptop, but ideally we should all dock them for sustained periods of use.  When I actually use my laptop on my lap, my wrists get sore- never a good sign.  Thus, if I’m going to take the trouble to dock it, I’d like the benefit of an ergonomic keyboard with a built-in wrist rest.  This one also comes with the option of a track ball or a mouse pad, but in all honesty, I’d rather have a mouse….speaking of which…
  • Evoluent Ergonomic Mouse- I love the handshake position this mouse provides.  After a long day of typing and mousing, I usually walk away with strained wrists, thumbs, and forefinger.  The latter two are usually from my touch pad.  Thus, I’d love an ergonomic mouse that would take better care of my wrists, hands, and fingers.

If I could design my own ergonomic work station, I’d choose the Wireless Ergo Wave Ergonomic Keyboard and the Evoluent Ergonomic Mouse for when I dock my laptop- be sure to check back next time for more of my dream ergonomic set-up!
