Choosing a Wireless Mouse!
Going Wireless
It’s like Christmas in my house today! We live overseas and my mom just came to visit, bearing gifts for everyone! Amongst toys and favorite snack foods we can’t get here in Scotland, my mom also brought some fun surprises, such as a wireless mouse for me!! I’m pretty sure she brought one because she loves hers so much, but it may have been to get me to quit complaining about sore hands and fingers after longer periods of work. {Or maybe she just wants to ensure that I will keep blogging about and posting pictures of her beloved grandchildren!} Regardless of her motives, I am thrilled!
Why I wanted a wireless mouse
There are actually several reasons why I wanted a wireless mouse.
- I work from a laptop, and as savvy as I try to be, I really don’t like touch pads. They’re for some and not for others. My right thumb and forefinger are usually very sore from switching from typing to awkward mousing on the touch pad.
- A wireless mouse would allow me to mouse from any surface, even the couch if I’m just emailing while watching a movie {I would never work while watching American Idol…}.
- I don’t like cords and the tangled mess that inevitably occurs with a bunch a wires. Thus, a wireless mouse would also be convenient on my desktop. Plus, I have kids, and the fewer wires you have, the better- believe me.
Choosing a Wireless Mouse
Choosing a wireless mouse is another thing altogether. In this scenario, I was given one- thus the choice was not mine. Fair enough. However, chances are your mom is not going to be bringing you yours overseas, so here’s what to look for.
-
A comfortable fit. This is always a top concern for ergonomic products. There’s no reason to spend money on a product that isn’t comfortable because it’s ill-fitting.
- Right or left-handed compatible. You might as well get a mouse that goes with your specific handedness.
- A low impact style- there are several mouse styles out there that offer different positions for your hand- the best ones are usually those that put your hand in the most natural position possible- ie not palm-down. The Renaissance mouse is a great option because it has a joystick hold and is available in a wireless model.
When choosing a wireless mouse, be sure to look for comfort, fit, and design.
