Getting ergonomic for finals
Many of us never quit functioning on a school calendar, feeling like the calendar year begins in September rather than January. And with school calendars comes an awareness of tests and exams, the latter of which fall in December and May for most. Thus, I thought it might benefit some of you to discuss some practical tips for exam preparation.
Practical Tips for Exam Preparation
First, get yourself organized. This may sound simple, but getting your space in order allows you to feel in control of your life and therefore your exam, as well. Plus, you’ll be able to find all your notes and get them in order.
Next, set up an ergonomic work station. This does not mean that you have to buy a bunch of new products- rather, set up what you have as ergonomically as possible to get the most of your time and effort. See below for specific how-to’s.
Elevate your laptop. Studying involves a lot of reading, writing, and typing, so an elevated screen will aid in avoiding eye and neck strain.- Plug in an extra monitor and an ergonomic keyboard for even more reading and typing comfort.
- Add a wrist rest for breaks between typing periods and/or upgrade to an ergonomic mouse complete with a mouse pad with a built-in wrist rest.
- Try a document holder or two for all the texts and notes you’ll have to reference throughout the day.
- Add some small lights, but not right on the monitors- no reason to create glare where it doesn’t need to be!
- Try a foot rest for comfort so you can rest his feet comfortably.
One last thing to note- most people studying for exams don’t have tons of extra cash- so pick and choose what changes would really make a difference for you.
When preparing for your exams, be sure to study in at an ergonomic work station {and to study!!}.
