My Dream Ergonomic Set-Up: Part 3
Since I frequently write about ergonomic trends, principles, and products, I thought it would be fun to day dream about my ideal ergonomic set-up.
A little about my needs
Before we had kids, I was a high school Spanish teacher and would have loved a wireless presentation keyboard or even a mobile stand for my laptop as I presented new concepts and vocabulary. However, now that I work from home, my job has changed to suit my new schedule. I live in a small flat in Scotland while my husband completes his PhD. Thus, space is certainly an issue for us. We barely have enough space to function, much less an actual office area for me. Thus, my desk is in the living room, but I am grateful to have one. If I had a generous gift card, though, here is what I would choose after a year+ of researching ergonomic products.
My Actual Work Station {Comfort & Distraction Reduction}
I would form my work station around the Sit or Stand WorkStation and the Body Bilt Ergonomic Chair. From there, I’d use a wireless wireless ergo wave keyboard and the Evoluent mouse. Those are my computing needs- now, it’s time for comfort and distraction reduction.
Double Wide Foot Rest- Ergonomists tell us to keep our feet flat on the floor for good posture and ergonomic comfort. A foot rest helps you keep your feet flat on the ground even if you’re on the shorter range. I chose the “double wide” not because I’m that big of a person, but I like that this foot rest has a bigger foot print {pun intended} which allows for more flexibility in foot placement.- A sound machine- Sound machines are great for tuning out office noise and distractions. No matter how focused you want to be, it’s virtually impossible to be productive if your ear is constantly drawn to co-worker chatter or irritated by the overly-loud sales guy and his pitch you know verbatim. There are a number of sound machines out there, but my favorite for office work is the Sonet because of its uniform distribution and effectiveness.
Creating a great ergonomic work station includes comfort and distraction reduction, too- that’s why I chose a great foot rest and the best single office sound machine, the Sonet.
