An Ergonomic Chair Could Relieve Your Back Pain
Do you feel back pain after a day of work? Many people are spending their entire day in chairs that do not provide enough support for their body. Switching to a good, ergonomic chair can help relieve pain and keep you from possible injury.
Choosing an ergonomic chair. Here are a few guidelines to help you choose the right ergonomic chair.
- Is the seat comfortable? Your chair seat should be wide enough for a comfortable fit and should not be too deep to catch behind your knees. And you should still feel comfortable after sitting for an hour or two, without any pressure points or soreness.
- Can you adjust the height of the chair? Try to find a chair that easily adjusts height while you are seated. This will let you adjust your chair quickly, into a more accurate position.
- Does the back rest provide good support? When you sit in a chair, the shape of the back rest should fit the curvature of your spine. Some back rests can be adjusted to provide a better fit. There also needs to be sufficient support for your lumbar area.

- Start with the chair height. Lower the seat so that your feet are firmly on the ground, providing support for you legs and back.
- Move the back rest so that it best fits the curve of your spine.
- If you to improve the lumbar support, try using a rolled towel or portable lumbar support.
- Adjust the armrests to assure that you have free movement of your elbows while typing. You can rest on them between periods of typing, but they should be completely out of the way while using your keyboard.
